Please introduce yourself to our readers. They love to know about you, your passion, and how you came to find and follow your passion for weddings.
When planning our own wedding we just couldn’t find an affordable option for delicious drinks. The only available cocktail option came from our caterer and it was well over our budget so with the help of my very handy husband, built our own bar!
We’ve been in the industry for 8 years now and we have learnt so much, but still every event is different. My favourite thing about working in the events industry is that every day is a party and no work day is ever the same.
For you, what’s one part of the wedding guests should never miss?
The speeches. They get a bad wrap (and yes, sometimes they are dull) but often they are amazing! Heart wrenching, funny, nostalgic and moving all at the same time! There is nothing like getting to know your friends even deeper at their wedding, so fill your glass (you’re going to need it for the toast!) and settle down to really hear about those beautiful people who’s wedding you’re attending.
As a vendor, the speeches are my favourite. And yep, a tear (or two!) have been shed by myself and my staff behind the bar during the speeches! We never miss them.
What you the best piece of advice you can give on how couples can make sure their wedding feels true to who they are?
I love attending a wedding that tells a story. The history behind a couple, their future too. You can see it in the details: a drinks menu that is reminiscent of them, of holidays taken and first date laughs, cocktails named after their dogs. Food carefully chosen for the memories- Paella on the beach in Spain, desserts made by Auntie’s, fruit from her home town.
There’s magic in these weddings- they don’t have to be the most expensive, they often aren’t, but its the care and thought that goes into them that makes them special. Don’t get hung up on prices but more, take note of what is really important to you as a couple and make those bits happen. Don’t worry about the rest.
Share one of your secret tips with our readers how they can ensure their wedding goes… Just as Planned.
Make sure you (or your wedding planner!) sends out a timeline, plus a vendor list to every vendor. You would be surprised how many times, I have arrived on site to have other vendors asking what time welcome drinks start or last drinks are happening (and how many times, they have been given a different time for these that I do!)
The schedule isn’t the be all and end all but it helps if everyone on your team is on the same page.
Any ideas you can share for what to do the day after the wedding?
Don’t spend the day tidying up. In fact, I would go as far as to advise to pay someone to do this for you! Instead spend the day together reminiscing, reliving the day, spending time with family and friends who have travelled and elderly relatives. You won’t have all these special people all in the one place again, soak it up.
Oh and do something special, you will always remember, just the two of you, even if it’s only breakfast.
