Get ready to satisfy your sweet tooth and dive into the delectable world of wedding cakes on today’s episode of the Just as Planned TV and Podcast Show! I’m your host and connoisseur of celebrations, Nathan Cassar, and joining us today is the talented Amanda O’Driscoll, the creative genius behind Amanda Bakes.
Amanda’s journey into the world of baking is as delightful as her cakes themselves. With a passion for baking passed down through generations, she’s honed her skills over the years, working in bakeries and mastering the art of cake decorating. But it was a twist of fate during the lockdowns of 2021 that led Amanda to turn her love for baking into a thriving business, one delicious cake at a time.
But Amanda’s talents don’t end with her cakes. As a new mom, she’s inspiring others to pursue their passions while juggling the joys of motherhood. And when she’s not busy whipping up confectionery masterpieces, you’ll find her hitting the gym or volunteering as a scout leader.
Today, Amanda will be sharing her expertise on all things wedding cakes. From what goes into crafting a custom cake to the ingredients of a perfect confection, she’ll reveal the secrets behind creating a show-stopping centerpiece for your big day. We’ll also explore unique cake ideas, from edible keepsakes to stunning floral arrangements, and uncover the reasons why wedding cakes are worth every penny.
So, if you’re ready to indulge in a mouthwatering conversation and gain insight into the art of cake decorating, you’re in for a treat. Amanda, welcome to the show!
About Amanda O’Driscoll:
My love for baking came from my grandmothers and parents. I’ve always been creative and arty which is where I believe my ability for cake decorating comes from. I worked in bakeries mostly out on the counter for quite a few years in my teens. In my early 20s, I landed a job baking for a franchise bakery/coffee shop and then worked in a wholesale pastry kitchen. I’ve always loved baking cakes for my friend’s birthdays and gifting treats at Christmas time.
In August 2021, I was stood down from my job due to covid lockdowns. My husband encouraged me to attempt selling some baked goods within my friend network and our apartment community group. The requests for cakes started to come in, so I decided to refine my skills by completing a cake decorating workshop through Australian Patisserie Academy and some other online courses. I’ve had the privilege of baking everything from milestone birthday cakes, to wedding cakes and corporate cakes.
