Real Wedding – Shari and Chris

There wasn’t a lot that went right in the lead-up to our wedding.

My Dad had passed one year and one month before our wedding, there was the constant uncertainty of ‘would our wedding be able to go ahead’ with the grooms family and groomsmen needing to travel from overseas and the borders being closed due to Covid and then one month before our wedding my family were involved in a serious car accident which resulted in my Mum being hospitalised for a month and confined to a wheelchair.

However, with this string of unfortunate events, we decided that we had to proceed with the wedding because who knew what could happen next.

Our wedding venue was Tranquil Park in Maleny the beautiful hinterland setting in April inspired an Autumn theme.

We chose browns, peaches, pinks, and cream as our colour scheme with an elegant rustic look throughout filled with roses and candles in a bright, well-lit setting.

My 3 bridesmaids were in matching dresses in different colours, brown, peach and cream.

Our groomsmen wore beige chinos with brown accessories and a buttonhole rose that matched the colour of the bridesmaid’s dress that they were paired up with.

My 14-month-old son and 9-year-old stepson wore matching beige suits with a dusty pink bow ties that matched the flower girls’ dress, and I wore an Essence of Australia dress with lace detail and a long train with a cathedral length veil.

I wore a locket on the day with a photo of my Dad inside so that he could “walk me down the aisle” and I had a beautifully signed reserved seat for him in the front row.

My Mum was released from hospital days before the wedding and was able to attend with my brothers who were also wrapped in casts and bandages from the accident.

It rained all week in the lead up to the wedding including the morning of. We moved our ceremony to a room inside with a beautiful view overlooking the glasshouse mountains where every guest was able to take a seat.

Our beautiful celebrant told our love story of how we’d met on Tinder 7 years earlier and had achieved a new goal every year of our relationship including travel, a new family car, buying our first house, adopting our dog, starting our business, and bringing our son into the world, all leading up to our beautiful wedding and becoming husband and wife.

Our reception was set in a room with a wall of glass looking out onto the Glasshouse mountains. We were entertained by the beautiful sounds of an acoustic duo Manū Music and we sipped on margaritas and danced until midnight.

Our cake was a delicious vanilla sponge barrel cake a top of a tower of donuts and our catering was all done by our venue, Tranquil Park, and featured a selection of canapés followed by beef filet and crispy skin salmon for mains.

Our guests have since raved about how much they enjoyed being a part of our day and our wedding has been featured by a number of social media accounts since, which has been such a huge compliment as all of our wedding was created, styled and planned by myself. I’m very grateful that with everything that was thrown our way in the lead up, our wedding turned out to be an absolutely magical day.
