The date is set, the guest list is done. Now time for the invitations. When ordering your invitations, it is important to remember it is not just about the style and colour scheme, the words are what take centre stage.
Here are our simple tips to ensure your Invitation Etiquette is up to scratch.
The Introduction:
For weddings especially this can be the tricky part. The easiest way to start is to ask the question “Who is hosting the Event?” as this will help decide on how to start your introduction.
It is not uncommon for the Bride and Groom to host the wedding, therefore you can start with. Together with their families
For more traditional wording, where the Bride’s parents are hosting the event, the introduction would be Mr & Mrs Jones. You can always include their first names such as Mr Scott & Mrs June Jones.
If both the Bride and Grooms parents are hosting the wedding, it is essential to include them both in the introduction. This can be achieved by using the words “Together with” which allows you to link them together harmoniously.

Ceremony and Reception details
The details listed regarding the ceremony and reception should include the Date, Time and Address.
If you are considering having a map inserted with your invitation, you can exclude the street address of the venue, however, it is essential that the title such as “Hilton Hotel” is still included, especially for churches and restaurants. This will help prevent your guests from getting lost.
Dress Requirements
Ensure you let your guests know how you are expecting them to dress to avoid any discomfort or disappointment.
The most common dress codes are Black Tie, Cocktail Dress, or Smart Casual.
Black Tie is the most common and used for formal events. Men will wear a tuxedo or a suit and tie and ladies will wear a stylish evening gown or cocktail style dress.
A cocktail dress will require the men to wear a dark suit and an elegant dress for the ladies.
Smart casual does not mean jeans. For the men, they should wear tailored pants and a shirt preferably with a collar. A tie is optional.
For the ladies, a nice dress, tailored pants or skirt would be appropriate.
